Policyholder Rights

What does a public adjuster do?

A public adjuster is a licensed insurance professional who represents policyholders — not the insurance company — in the preparation, documentation, evaluation, and negotiation of property damage insurance claims.

Does hiring a public adjuster cost me anything upfront?

No. We work on a contingency fee basis — our fee is earned only if we assist in recovering benefits under your insurance claim.

Do I have to use the insurance company's contractor?

Generally, no. Policyholders have the right to choose their own contractor or restoration company.

Will my insurance company cancel me if I file a claim?

Filing a claim does not automatically mean cancellation. In California, there may be specific protections following declared disasters or wildfire events.

Claim Process

Can I still hire a public adjuster if the insurance company already inspected the property?

Yes. You can hire a public adjuster even after the insurance company has inspected, issued an estimate, made a payment, or partially adjusted the claim.

How long do I have to file or reopen my insurance claim?

It varies by policy and state law. In California, additional time may apply for supplemental or reopened claims — especially when hidden damages are discovered after initial payment.

What should I do immediately after property damage occurs?

Safety first. Then: photograph all damage, preserve damaged items, keep receipts, notify your insurer promptly, avoid discarding damaged materials, and keep written records of all communications.

How long does the insurance claim process take?

Smaller claims may resolve in weeks. Larger claims involving fire, smoke, water, or structural damage may take several months or longer.

Homeowner Claims

What types of insurance claims do you handle?

Fire & wildfire, smoke & soot, water & plumbing, storm & wind, roof damage, mold, vandalism & theft, collapse & structural, commercial property, apartments & multi-unit, business interruption, ALE claims, supplemental & underpaid claims.

Can I dispute the insurance company's estimate?

Yes. You are not required to accept their estimate if you believe damages were overlooked, underestimated, or improperly evaluated.

What if my insurance claim was denied?

A denial doesn't always mean the claim is without merit. You may be able to reopen discussions, submit supplemental info, or request reconsideration.

What is Additional Living Expense (ALE) coverage?

ALE helps pay for increased living costs when a covered loss makes your home uninhabitable — hotel, meals, storage, laundry, pet boarding, etc.

Commercial Claims & Business Interruption

How does business interruption insurance work?

It compensates a business for financial losses from a covered property damage claim — income loss, operating expenses, payroll, relocation costs, etc.

Supplemental Claims & Estimates

What if hidden damage is discovered after payment?

You may still be able to submit supplemental claims. Address newly discovered damage as soon as possible once identified.

Why is my insurance estimate so much lower than my contractor's estimate?

Differences are common due to repair scope, pricing, materials, labor costs, code requirements, or extent of damages identified during inspection.
